Melora Moore, MSW, LCSW
My journey to becoming a therapist started in high school when I met a young boy with deep emotional needs. My compassion for him led me to pursue education and training in serving others experiencing heartache that they could not resolve on their own. I wanted to play a part in providing a path to change and healing. Since then, my clinical experience has included assessing and working with children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal and homicidal ideation, and self-harm behaviors. I have served as the Director of Counseling in a school setting, working with teenagers experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, and stage of life challenges. I have also partnered with foster parents to assess their readiness to become foster families and support the needs of foster children. This experience gave me a greater understanding of the life challenges within families and provided opportunities to offer a balance of hope and truth.
My Education And Approach
I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from Troy University and the University of Alabama. I am also a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), receiving my licensure in Tennessee in 2008. In my practice, I have utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy to support clients toward change. I look forward to also incorporating Emotionally Focused Therapy in my work with couples, individuals, and families. Currently, I am under the direction and supervision of Christie Poole, MS, LMFT, to meet the requirements for LCSW in Georgia.
The Role Of Faith In My Practice
Early in my faith walk, God led me to a scripture in Luke where Christ shares, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” After reading this, I knew that I, too, wanted to be an instrument of God to bring Good News to the heavy in heart. To proclaim freedom to the captive and oppressed. And to bring vision to those who felt blinded by their circumstances. Through my own walk with Christ, I have embraced scripture as a tool and a road map for life. I hope to guide others using this road map and my professional experience to find healing, restoration, and freedom.
Who I Help
My passion is towards adolescents, women, couples, and families. My own personal experiences have shown me that navigating through life’s challenges and changing seasons can be difficult to manage on your own. I hope to be a listening ear while gently challenging troubling thoughts and addressing painful feelings to bring change. I would love to start by meeting you where you are, assist in unpacking the heavy backpack of circumstances, and introduce light into those dark and unseen places. The fact that you are reading this indicates you are ready to take the next step. If you are looking for someone to come alongside you in this process, feel free to call me at 678-631-7639 to set up an appointment. We can have a free consultation to see if I am a fit for you.
